The four sacred months

There are 4 months in Islamic Lunar calendar that are sacred; three of them are consecutive and one is separate. They are sacred as Allah prohippted warfare in these three months. So people can travel in safety and security. Although Ramadan is the holiest month and the most virtuous month, these special four months have a certain meaning. It begins with the migration of the Prophet Muhammed (PBUH). In this article, we will know the names of the four sacred months and more information about them. More secrets in Islamic community will be explained, so just keep reading.

Which Four months are sacred?

In Surat Altawba, Allah says:

(Surely the (right) (i.e. fixed) number of the months in the Providence of Allah is twelve months (ordained) in the Book of Allah the day that He created the heavens and the earth. Four of them are prohibiting. (i.e., fighting is prohibited during them) That is the most upright religion. So do not do (any) injustice to yourselves during them; (i.e., during the prohibition during them) and fight the associators as a whole as they fight you as a whole; and know that Allah is with the pious.)

So we have four months three are consecutive and one is separated that are:

  • Dhu-al Qadah is the eleventh month in the Islamic lunar calendar.
  • Dhu-al Hijja is the twelfth month in the Islamic lunar calendar.
  • Mumarrah is the first. There are three months that are coming consecutive.
  • And the final and separate month is Rajab is the seventh month of the Islamic lunar calendar.

The most sacred month is Dhu-al Hijjah as the prophet Muhammed (pbuh) said: “No doubt your blood, your property, your honor is more sacred to one another as the sanctity of this day of yours, as sacred as this month of yours as sacred as this place of yours. Muhammad (pbuh) said this speech during the sermon of the farewell pilgrimage. This sermon was in Almasjed Al-Haram in Saudi-Arabia.

The way that Muslims and Islam sanctify these sacred months

Allah commanded Muslims to refrain from wronging themselves especially during the four sacred months. Wronging means to commit sins and follow the wrong steps that Satan imagines it to us, so by committing sins and wrongs we go away from obedience and wrong others. So to remember Muslims must refrain from doing sins all the time, especially during the four sacred months.

Why are the sacred months very advantages?

The four sacred months are very unique as they are the seasons of extra obedience to Allah. In these months all Muslims do their best to satisfy and please Allah. So they do good actions and deeds like donating, and helping poor people. They refrain themselves from evil deeds; compulsory and obligatory.

Muslims’ scholars referred to the best deeds that Muslims can perform during these months like performing obligations in the best ways and in its time like prayer, fasting, pilgrimage; etc. Also, performing voluntary acts of worship like doing prayer at night that is called “tahajod”, charity that is called “sadakah”.
