Sometimes we receive the following questions from reverts and new Muslims: What are the benefits that Hafiz (the memorizer of Qur’an) get in this life and the hereafter? Will he only get rewards? What will his family get? What will be his status in the hereafter? Will he meet Qur’an?? How would that be? If you, also, want to know? Then let’s talk about that. Dear brothers and sisters, first, we need to bear in mind that: Memorizing the Holy Qur’an is not easy. It’s a continuous effort and it’s an act of worship with which the Muslim seeks the sake of God and the reward in the Hereafter, and without this intention, he will not be rewarded, but rather he will be tormented for doing this worship for anyone or anything else other than Allah the Almighty. That’s why Allah the Almighty has singled out Hafiz of the Qur’an with special rewards in this life and also in the hereafter, including:
In Life: 1- Hafiz of Qur’an takes Imam’s Position in prayers. Allah’s Messenger () said: “The one who knows [by recitation and memorization] the Book of Allah most should be the Imam of the people. If they are equal in the recitation, then the one who knows the Sunnah most and if they are equal in the Sunnah then the earliest of them to emigrate (to al- Madinah) and if they are equal in the emigration then the oldest among them in Islam. “(Transnitted by Muslim 673). Also, we cannot talk about this reward without mentioning what happened when the earliest emigrants came to Al-Usba, a place in Cuba, before the arrival of the Prophet. Salim, the slave of Abu Hudhaifa, was the one to lead Muslims in prayermam as he knew the Qur en more than the others There’s Hadith sahih narrated about that. 3- He shall be assigned to the emirate and the presidency if he can bear it. Concerning that, there’s a beautiful story. One day, Naifeh bin Abdul Harith met Umar with Asians, and Umar employed him as the collector in Mecca, so he said: Who did you employ as a collector over the people of the valley? He said: Ibn Abzi, He said: And who is Ibn Abzi? He said: he is one of the slaves we freed! Did he say: Then you assigned a freed slave over them? He said: He reader of the Book of God Almighty, and he knows the obligations and commands, the Shari’ah, very well. Omar agreed and said: As for the Prophet (), he said: By this Book, means Qur’an, Allah would exalt some peoples and degrade others There’s Hadith sahih narrated about that. [Muslim 817] In the He Concerning this reward, the Prophet () said: “It shall be said – meaning to the one who memorized the Qur’an – Recite, and rise up, recite (melodiously) as you would recite in life. For indeed your rank shall be at the last Ayah you recited.”[Transmitted by al-Tirmidhi 2914] 5-The hafiz of Qur’an will be a companion with the angels in the hereafter. The Prophet ( ) said, “Such a person as recites the Qur’an and masters it by heart, will be with the noble righteous scribes (in Heaven). And such a person exerts himself to learn the Qur’an by heart, and recites it with great difficulty, will have a double reward. And righteous Scribes here are the angels.” [Transmitted by Al-Bukhari 4653 and Muslim 798].
6 The Hafiz of Qur’an will wear a crown of dignity and robe of dignity in the hereafter. The Prophet ( ) said “The one who memorized the Qur’an shall come the Day of Judgement and (the reward for memorizing Qur’an) says OLord! Decorate him.” So he is donned with a crown of nobility. Then it says “O Lord! Give him more So he is donned with a suit of nobility. Then it says “O Lord! First, for Hafiz himself/ herself: The Prophet () said:” Fasting and the Qur’an intercede for a man. Fasting says, ‘O my Lord, 1 have kept him away from his food and his passions by day, so accept my intercession for him.’ The Qur’an says. ‘I have kept him away from sleep by night, so accept my intercession for him.’Then their intercession Is accepted.” (Transmitted by Al-Albani] Abu Umama said he heard The Prophet () say, “Recite the Qur’an, for on the day of resurrection it will come as an intercessor for those who recite it. Recite the two shining ones, Baqara and sura Allman (Qur’an, 2 and 3) For on the day of resurrection they will come as slo d or two flocks of birds in ranks pleading for those who recite them Recite sura al- Baqara, for using it produces blessing and abandoning it produces regret, and the slothful are unable to recite it.” Transmitted by Muslim 804] the slothful are unable to recite it.” [Transmitted by Muslim 804] Second, for his/her parents: The Prophet ( ) said: whoever recites the Qur’an and acts upon what is inside it, his parents will be made to wear a crown on the Day of Qiyamah, the brilliance of which will excel that of the sun if the same were within your worldly houses. Hence, what do you think about the person who acts upon it? [Transmitted by Abu Dawud] Dear brother/ sister, ask and seek Allah’s generosity and support to help you get all these rewards and be the one who deserves them by working on yourself, learning Qur an.
