How did Omar Bin Al-Khattab convert to Islam? His conversion to Islam was that he went out holding his sword one day, wanting to destroy the Prophet, peace be upon him. A man met him and said: Where are you going, Umar? He said: I want to kill Muhammad. He said: How can you be safe from Bani Hashem and Bani Zahra (Prophet Mohammad relatives) when you kill Muhammad? They will be after revenge for Muhammad. Omar said to him: I see that you have deprived and abandoned your religion that you were in, that’s why you’re trying to prevent me from killing Muhammad. The man replied: Should I not guide you to the right and rational decision, Omar? Don’t you know that your sister and her husband have converted to Islam, and left your religion that you are angry for? Omar couldn’t stand it. He got so angry and walked to the house of his sister and her husband. And in this time, they had Khabab Ibn Al-Arat, in their house. He came to them with a paper of Qur’an written in it: [Taha Surah] reading it to them: {Ṭâ-Hâ. We have not revealed the Quran to you ˹O Prophet˺ to cause you distress, but as a reminder to those in awe ˹of Allah˺…}
When Omar approached the house, he had heard some of Shabab’s reading to them, but Khabab heard the sound of Omar coming, So he got hidden in the house, and Fatima – Omar’s sister – covered the paper quickly. Omar entered the house and said: What is this sound that I heard with you? They said: Except for a recent conversation between us. He said angrily: Perhaps you both left our religion and became disbelievers and followed Mohammad’s new religion. His sister’s husband replied: O Omar, what if the truth was in something other than your religion? Omar realized and made sure they converted to Islam! Omar jumped on him and he got punched severely by Omar. When the sister saw this, she couldn’t stand watching her husband be harmed severely, so she got near trying to defend her husband from her brother Omar by getting Omar up to get him away from her husband, but it was a moment of anger for Omar. So, he gave her a strong slap on her face. She said, and she was sad and angry: O Omar, if the truth is in another religion than your religion, I wouldn’t leave it and I bear witness that there is no god but Allah, and I bear witness that Muhammad is the Messenger of God.
When Omar despaired and saw the blood of his sister on her face because of his slap, Omar regretted, felt bad, and said: Give me the paper that you have to see and read it. His sister said: You can’t hold it because only the cleansed people touch it. You need to get up and wash your body, brother. He decided to do that.
He got up and got a shower, then took the paper, and he read: In the Name of Allah—the Most Compassionate, Most Merciful. Then he read [Taha] until he finished reading verse 14: {It is true I. I am Allah! There is no god ˹worthy of worship˺ except Me. So worship Me ˹alone˺, and establish prayer for My remembrance.}. Omar said: How good and honourable are these words? I need to see Muhammad. Take me to Muhammad. Then he met the Prophet, peace be upon him, and converted to Islam. And it is said that when Quraysh Saw Omar with two rows of Muslims with him going to the mosque to the prayer they were in a big depression and sadness as Omar was a great man in this time who left their side to the Muslim’s belief and side.
